Runhuabang Fun Sports Day | Annual Autumn Games

Oct 08, 2026

On a crisp Saturday in October 2026, Runhuabang Mineral Products turned its attention from shipping schedules to starting lines: our annual fun sports day, held on the open ground behind the factory. From the mill floor to the export office, everyone was there — not to sell or to inspect, but to run, jump, balance and, above all, to laugh together. For a company whose work is measured in tonnes and deadlines, a morning of three-legged races and sack races may look like a break from business. In fact, it is one of the most productive investments we make in the team behind every order of kaolin, diatomite and bentonite. Flags marked the course, a loudspeaker crackled with announcements, and the canteen staff set up a drinks stand at the finish line of every event. Even the morning mist seemed to lift on schedule, as if it, too, had come to watch.

From Production Line to Starting Line

The events were chosen with one principle in mind: nobody wins alone. The two-person three-legged race paired a veteran operator with the youngest apprentice in his department, forcing two generations that usually communicate in nods and shouted instructions over machine noise to coordinate step by step. The sack race brought out a competitive streak that surprised everyone, including the quality-control manager, who hopped across the finish line with the same determination she brings to a specification review. In the egg-and-spoon relay, balance and calm beat speed every time — the closest any of us came to a quality incident all week was a single, tragic egg.

Teams were deliberately mixed: production, quality control, sales, export and finance all shared one colour of jersey, and department loyalties dissolved within the first whistle. The scoreboard stayed unofficial, which was exactly the point. What mattered was visible on every face — colleagues cheering for colleagues, managers carrying water for their teams, and apprentices teaching their bosses the finer points of the backwards relay.

The opening whistle had promised ninety seconds of ceremony and a whole morning of chaos, and it delivered both: a group stretch that the finance team performed with more enthusiasm than flexibility, a warning from the factory manager that anyone who took the games more seriously than work would be disqualified, and then — chaos, in the best possible way.

Healthy People, Reliable Shipments

Some customers ask why we spend a Saturday on sports instead of an extra shift. The answer is that a tired team is an expensive team. In our industry, a moment of inattention at the packing station or a rushed decision in the export office can cost more than any holiday. A relay team is a supply chain in miniature: when one runner stumbles, the whole team slows down, and when teammates trust each other, every handoff is smooth. Exercise keeps our people healthy, reduces stress before the busy season and builds the reflexes of cooperation that no training manual can teach.

We also notice something less obvious: sports days level the playing field between generations and departments. The apprentice who taught his manager the backwards relay will remember that moment the next time he needs approval for a sample shipment, and the manager will remember that the apprentice has good instincts. Trust built on a sports field carries straight into the workplace, where it shows up as faster decisions, fewer misunderstandings and better service for our customers.

Sports also keep experience in the company longer. A healthy, active workforce is a workforce that stays — and in mineral processing, experience cannot be replaced in a season. The operator who can judge the moisture of a drying line by touch alone, and the inspector who notices a change in brightness before the instrument does: these are the people we want both on the field and on the production line, year after year.

Trophies, High Fives and a Promise

The final event was the department relay, and the trophy — a modest cup that will live on the winners' shelf for a year — went to the team that dropped nothing and cheered loudest, which everyone agreed was the same team. After the closing photo, we shared a simple lunch and an even simpler promise: to carry the energy of the morning into the months ahead, when orders grow heavier and deadlines grow tighter. For us, the fun sports day is not an annual extra — it is part of how we work. Fairness on the field, persistence in the final metres and joy in shared effort are the same values that guide how we treat customers, handle complaints and keep promises. A team that cheers for each other will also look out for each other's customers.
